New hires receive 40 hours of vacation time after successful completion of their probationary period, and an additional 40 hours of vacation at their one-year mark.

Job Description Position Summary Performs a variety of working level, skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the construction, installation, maintenance, upkeep and repair of city buildings, aquatic facilities, recreation facilities, parks, cemetery grounds and general environs.
Applicants may be required to work extended or irregular hours such as weekends, nights and/or holidays.
Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of Parks Maintenance Supervisor and the Parks Superintendent.
Essential Functions(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.

) Irrigates, mows and plants lawns with power and hand equipment; plants and prunes trees and bushes; and sprays and cultivates shrubs, trees, turn and flowers.
Repairs broken water lines or valves.
Replaces and/or installs pipes, heads, valves, pumps and time clocks as necessary to maintain watering system.
Assists in the installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems.
Applies fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides to lawns, trees, and shrubs as directed.
Performs preventative maintenance and checks on power equipment.
Patrols assigned areas, and facilities performing maintenance and repairs to assure proper functioning of equipment.
Maintains, cleans, repairs, and paints pavilions, playgrounds, restrooms, picnic tables, barbeques, and other park features.
Assist in the preparation and cleanup of city sponsored events, sporting events and other miscellaneous activities.
Operates tractors, backhoes, trimmers, blowers, gang mowers, rotary mowers, and other power equipment incidental to job.
Periodically performs minor construction, remodel, and repair of various structures and facilities including carpentry and concrete work.
Performs preventative maintenance and checks on power equipment used.
Assists with cemetery maintenance in excavating burial sites and performing specialized maintenance involving raising and leveling headstones and graves.
Assists with set up and take down for special events such as Peach Days.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications 1.
Qualifications, Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year of experience related to park maintenance, upkeep, and beautification, preferred.
Possess a valid Utah Driver's License throughout employment and meet the requirements of Hurricane City's Operation of Vehicles Policy; Utah Commercial Driver License is desirable.
Successful completion of background check and pre-employment drug screening required.

Special Qualifications Possess, or ability to obtain by the end of probationary period, First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certificates.
All accredited certifications must be kept current.
Failure to do so may result in loss of position.

Capacity to operate a variety of landscape and park maintenance equipment.
Capable of lifting equipment, tables and a variety of heavy objects.

Ability to operate heavy equipment, i.

Operation of a variety of hand tools and equipment common to the building and landscape trades.
Perform basic small engine (gas and electric) repair.
Knowledge of standard safety procedures and precautions relating to equipment operations and the loading and unloading of materials.
Perform outdoor manual labor for extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.
Knowledge of concrete and concrete finishing practices.
Perform various semi-skilled and skilled functions related to building and landscape maintenance.
Basic English composition, spelling, grammar and computer skills.
Build, foster and sustain a positive public image.
Develop effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and the public.
