Native American Style Branch Flute - Unique Hand Made 5 hole for sale in Hurricane, UT

1 of 1
Native American Style 5 Hole Branch Flute - Hand made in Key of A. This striking 5 hole Branch F lute is an upper mid-range flute that has a traditional sound. Made from a branch found on the banks of the Virgin River in Utah, the same river that carved the incredible Zion National Park. The seasonal floods leave thousands of sun dried branches on the river's banks. They make excellent flutes. The Anasazi had a settlement a few feet from where I found this branch. Each branch flute has its own unique sound and tonal quality. This flute is 17.25" long with a 3/4" diamet er sound chamber, which is coated with 3 layers of Shellac to seal it and improve the clarity of sound. Shellac is made from the secretions of the Lac Bug and is non toxic. This flute has 2 coats of a red mahagony stain that gives it a rich red color. Four coats of water based polyurethane varnish completes the hand polished look. Water based polyurethane creates a hard and durable finish, which is also non-toxic once dry. The Fetish is hand-made of pine and is of a Monarch Butterfly sitting on a dried "Jumping" Cholla Cactus branch, which I found in the Mojave Desert behind my home. This is the first flute in my "Butterfly Series". Upcoming flutes will each have a different Butterfly Fetish on unique flutes. Decorations include leather strapping, reproduction sinew, and jute cord to replicate the decorations the Anasazi used on their flutes over 1,000 years ago. I am recently retired and for a new adventure have decided to start offering my hand-made flutes. The difference is that I am donating 100% of the proceeds to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society . They are the global leader in the fight against cancer. My father passed away from Lymphoma, so this charity is close to my heart. They are a great organization with a great mission to cure these cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Each flute I make is unique and takes on average about 4 days to build. I make branch flutes the same way as my regular flutes, except I do not have to plane the branch. I make each flute in my woodshop, one at a time, using some power tools, but also up to 22 hand tools that I inherited from my master carpenter grandfather. Using the same hand tools that my grandfather used is very special to me and a connection to my heritage. I can offer these flutes for a bit less because I am not trying to make a profit. This is my hobby and do it for enjoyment, and for charity. The flutes are not quite concert quality but are pretty close. I have tuned it using a Seiko chromatic tuner. Plays pentatonic scale of A, C, D, E, G, A. The flute can play several notes in the next octave. They are just fun to play, are a wonderful conversation piece, and make a great display.
